What is proxy server?

Proxy server is a kind of server used for linkage between the local client workstation and the internet Proxy server is placed in local computer or at the required points such as between the local client and the destination server.

Proxy server sends all the requests made by the client and in turn replies without any modifications.

Proxy server acts as a firewall server between the local client and the global server by providing network security, network control and caching requests.

Function of the Proxy server:

proxy server receives the request of local client (for example web page request ) which is made to host server( internet ).before sending the reply to the  local client it checks the local cache for previously downloaded web pages made  by the local client and if it is there it returns the web page without connecting the destination server. If the web page is not in the downloaded local cache the proxy server itself acts as a local client and uses its own IP address (Internet Protocol) and request the page from the server and when the page is returned from the host server it forwards to the local client.

Proxy server does the following services like file transfer, connecting global servers and web pages, accessing unauthorized sites

The service requested by the client is carried by proxy server by providing the required resources to the destination server.
 Sometimes the clients request or the server response may be declined by the proxy server and the request is carried by the proxy server without contacting or connecting the destination server   by gathering the saved content from the previous request done by the local client, this is called as caching. Catching proxy server stores the copies of previous used requests or resources made by the client in a special database. By using this caching technique the proxy server make the request without contacting the destination server, so the user’s response time is faster and also helps in increasing the speed of our local client connection to the internet. By using this catching method proxy server can also be used for logging

Proxy server is not visible directly as the requests and replies appear with the internet server address.

The main purpose of using this proxy server is for accessing unauthorized sites. As these sites were blocked by the system administrator in the local computer. When we access these blocked sites directly the web services gathers the personnel information about u through your ip .By this the system administrator may spy upon you, monitor u r interests. So by suing the proxy server it hides the local client’s ip address and uses its own ip address and it will make requests by its own an d returns the web page. Proxy server hides the information of your website which u r viewing it doesn’t let anyone to know what you are surfing. Proxy servers are used to surf any kind of web services like gmail.yahoomail, orkut, chat services etc.

For this kind of function we use is anonymous proxy servers.
How to access unauthorized sites:

 By using the anonymous proxy servers we can access unauthorized sites. Just we need to go to proxy sites and enter the URL address of the website which u wants to surf. And surf the web site by hiding your personnel information.
